But Hawk,
It was Cheney.

Oh come on now.. That's such a specious argument that I just about refused to dignify it with an answer. If Cheney hadn't been in charge, it would have been someone else, or worse, the French, British, or Germans.

Who (always) benefits?

Well, don't leave out those "traitorous" US workers who are employed by Haliburton and enjoyed greater job security because of that business.

And it's certainly better than the European corporations who have been complicit in selling Saddam dual-use technology for creating biological and chemical weapons.

Now if you have proof that Cheney and/or Haliburton executives, were involved in illegal trade not permitted with Iraq, then you have a case. But I believe you'll have a tough time finding any.

And you might recall the obvious conflicts of interest that have existed in the past between American corporations and our enemies, especially Nazi Germany.

Or think about when the US implemeted sanctions upon S. Africa to protest apartheid, yet that didn't prevent the French and Germans from filling that economic void.

I don't like the implications anymore than the next guy, but I'm not about to call someone "unethical" when they are implementing the existing US policy of the time.

Would you have preferred non-US corporations to have performed those services?

Hawk
