Dour? Nah. The only dour liberals are the ones who ignore history and economics. Reagan came along when few expected such a reversal in political sentiment. It'll be the same in reverse before much longer.

I'm not talking about the sappy self-interest liberalism of the 65-75 era, but the old-fashioned kind, that helped build the middle class and alleviated some of the burdens of the poor.

I'm patient. If I have a dour moment while it unfolds, a shot of good cognac will tide me over. ;^)
