RE: Chris & SI - Censorship always looks silly in retrospect...
The matter should have been handled privately; A notice from SI to cease and desist should have been sufficient. If Chris ignored such a request from SI, then that's another thing - but then, we don't know.
Now everyone feels as if they are walking on eggshells, being "watched" by un-seen moderators who may act on some whim; It spoils the whole experience of SI, and makes them seem elitist.
The SI people have only succeeded in making me feel as if I am being used. After all, we are only users who contribute nothing more than hits to some counter; The volume of which is being sold to some un-seen entities as fodder for advertising or other commercial purpose for which we are not compensated, but they are.
So much for the freedom of speech and the idealism of my (baby boom) generation. These young folks know "what's right and wrong", and will not hesitate to censor, suspend, sanitize and exclude that which does not conform to their notion of what is and is not correct.
Continuing this thread is, therefore, not the proper response.
Rather, we should dis-continue the thread, post our dis-content on all other threads, and boycott SI. The only response to oppressive behavior that leaves one with any dignity is to refuse to participate.
