Rich, Re: "NEC will show a Madison system with 32 processors running SAP's business software, while Unisys will demonstrate upgrading four Itanium 2 processors to Madison processors, a process that will take place without disturbing software running in a separate 12-processor section of the server, sources said."

Here come the high end Itanium demonstrations. The interoperability of Madison with McKinley is a very nice feature, and likely a move to encourage customers to buy into McKinley early with the prospect of upgrading later. SAP software was recently announced, but seeing it running on a 32 processor system should turn quite a few heads. SAP scales extremely well with multiple processors, as does many of the high end apps coming to Itanium architecture. It will be interesting to see how these higher end systems affect Itanium sales demand.
