Pierre Mauroy, mayor of Lille, head of the Socialist party. When Mauroy formed his government, Mitterrand authorized him to pick as many as one minister out of forty some guys, four of them Communists, real ones, not like in the movies.
A few months later, as Mauroy gov didn't have much success and had spent the state bullion on pet projects, the PM came out with a new plan to get us all out of the (his) mess. He declared on national (state) TV :
" The journalists "doivent" should, or rather must, explain the action of the government".
It didn't work, and the next PM, Beregovoy, yes Jewish, wasn't any better. A couple of years later, he'll blow his brains out (for real) because of some insiders trading on the Triangle affair in which he made about million $.(aluminium merger).
I ought to know as I was one of them journalists, then. And I just loved that Mauroy line. See, today I still quote him with some real pleasure...
Of course, my take on OseIrak (dare Irak)didn't have any success. Nor my career, btw, as I just couldn't manage to write what the people wanted to read... |
