Watching Dick Cheney this morning, it is completely clear now that on Thursday at his UN speech Bush is going to lay down an ultimatum that Hussein is unlikely to agree to. It also seems pretty clear that we will act on that ultimatum even if the UK is our only significant ally. Cheney also stated that he expects congress to vote on this issue before they leave.. so highly likely sometime in October, perhaps by the first half. Based on the prior market reaction to an Iraq war, we can expect further selling leading into this event.
