What do yo make of the government of the US lying about inflation?

I heard Jimmy Rogers on CNBC a couple of months ago responding to a caller who asked about inflation....and Jimmy said "...because the US Government is lying about inflation.".

I think it is dangerous for the US Government to sell inflation protected bonds to the growing elderly population -- because their bond investments are not really keeping up with inflation.
