Very good post, Paul! Good words that I hope others here on this thread will listen to.
For the time being, I am thinking of periodically introducing topics for discussion that relate in some way to the topic of this thread. This is how each particular aspect of investing and analysis can have its time on this thread to be the focus of discussion. This can occur along with the normal discussion about stocks. Also, by spotlighting particular topics we can not only learn more (and those new to the topic learn somethign about it), but also we can work together to discover ways in applying the information to our stock selection and investment approach.
Some topics that may be of interest to all of you:
1. "Fundamental Analysis for the Investor Short on Time", I would like to investigate ways to make the fundamental analysis of stock a much more efficient process. The scope of FA depends much on the length of time the investment is made fore. Shorter term investor may find this particularily useful. 2. "Tape Reading 101", a look into what an investor can pick up from the observation of the transaction reported on a price ticker of a stock. This is a subject that I want to learn much more about. 3. "Different Strokes for Different Folks" can be a periodic examination of the different ways one can make money in the stock market, including a look at the investment practices in use by the leading investment authorities and successes such as O'Neal, Lynch, Buffer, Kroll, and others. I amm surprised to find that the more successful investment approaches have more in common than I originall thought. 4. "101 Ways to Take Money from the Investor", a look into the games and tricks both brokerages and the market maker or specialist uses to extract more that their alloted "cut" from each pruchase and sale of stock by the investor. This can also cover a discussion about the NASDAQ market maker and the games he plays on the investor which has lead to successful investigations by the SEC and leavy of fines against key market makers.
And so forth. Any feedback on these topics, or are there topics that any of you want to add to this list?
I also want to continue the dailiy postings that Chris started that will sum up the market activity over the current day and also provide insightful analysis by the "professionals" on the street, like the technician John Murphy.
Also, there can be a "chart of the week" that can be periodically introduced where anyone who wants to participate can analyze a particular company in different ways. This covers both FA, TA, event time line analysis of the stock, and so forth. This is the "back to the thread's purpose" type of discussion that I want to reintroduce to the group here, where we talk about not only the TA, but other types of analysis of companies and their related stock issues.
Any feedback or comments?
Bob Graham
