It looks as if, in an impoverished land, the best way to defeat a movement is to give it power.

Goes back to Bernie Lewis's observation that the Arabs hate whatever Government they have. Best way to get rid of the Mullahs is to let them run things for awhile. :^)

When it comes to supporting direct attacks on us, Iran worries me as much, or even more, than Iraq. The Mullahs hate us and have a twenty year history of supporting terrorists who move against us. The Iraq situation is one that we need to move on because of his ability to control the ME with WMD, and his proved willingness to use it.

I think that as long as Bush is in, the war to completely change the ability of the ME to run a terror campaign against us will continue. I am afraid that someone else will tire of it, "Declare Victory," and cease the attack.

I am afraid that what has happened is Israel the last 20 years is a harbinger of what we are going to have to go through. There is a "Right" and "Left" split on what we need to do that crosses party lines, and has nothing to do with the normal political differences. The "Right" here wants wants us to continue to attack until the Arabs give up. The "Left" here wants us to try to negotiate and get the Arabs to settle by peaceful means. You can see this split here on this board.

The Israelis had this Ideological battle, and the "Right" there has won out. But it took twenty years of terrorist attack to make that happen.
