(COMTEX) B: Interbrew Closing Dutch Brewery
B: Interbrew Closing Dutch Brewery

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Sep 09, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Interbrew said Monday
that it plans to close a Dutch brewery and reduce a British operation, leading
to the loss of 400 jobs.

The moves are designed to "improve Interbrew's cost structure" following rapid
growth through acquisitions, the company said in a statement.

The Dutch plant, in southern Breda, will see its production transferred to
Belgian breweries and another Dutch plant in the city of Dommelen. The phase-out
is expected to take 18 months. Some 335 jobs will be cut there.

The British plant affected is in Manchester, where 68 jobs will be cut. Some
production will be moved to other British plants in Magor and Preston.
Manchester will stay open to produce ale.

Interbrew, based in Belgium, owns brands that include Stella Artois, Beck's and
Bass Ale.
