1. Police and fire departments, and armed forces are the most obvious examples of government jobs that the "public" wants. There are many others.

2. In our society, we endeavor to have the government reflect the will of the "public", and we believe we have succeeded at a level unsurpassed by any other system, past or present.

3. Because we are such a rich nation, there will always be very large sums of money that fall into a grey area and legitimately spur discussion and debate about the utility and propriety of the government's use of that money.
