| It is not terribly likely that casual acquaintances would know my business to the extent you are suggesting, unless there is independent publicity, and even then, people frequently miss things. For example, when my wife was still at St. John's, she was in the Evening Capitol with some regularity, sometimes just as part of a photo display for a community activity, occasionally as part of an article. As far as I could tell, most of our neighbors, who took the paper, missed her appearances. On the other hand, there are many things you know about me that do not often get worked into casual conversation. For example, few people that I have met since high school know that I was on "It's Academic", and even fewer, especially since college, have any idea of how extensive my drama resume is. A lot of my acquaintances do not know that I went to St. John's, or do not have even an inkling of how St. John's differs from most schools. I rarely have occasion to express how I feel about Washington D.C., although it has come up periodically on this and other threads. Long timers here know more about my tastes in literature, film, music, and food than most of my acquaintance. Sorry, Chris, but as a practical matter we do not show much to mere acquaintances, and the people we talk to extensively on the threads have more to go on than all but our closer friends and family....... |
