IDT Introduces Industry's Fastest and Lowest-Powered Synchronous FourPort Devices
Superior Performance Enables Leading Supplier of Multi-Port Technology to Extend Reach Into Key Communications Markets
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2002-- IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI - News), a leading communications IC company, today furthered its leadership in multi-port technology with the introduction of the industry's fastest and lowest-powered synchronous FourPort(TM) devices. At speeds up to 200 MHz and power consumption as low as 230mA, IDT's synchronous FourPorts enable customers to achieve a 40 percent increase in bandwidth relative to competing solutions. These latest additions to IDT's multi-port product portfolio strengthen the company's support for high-performance applications, including fibre channel line cards in storage area networks (SANs), baseband applications in the wireless communications infrastructure, and header lookups in network switches. IDT's synchronous FourPorts, which are available in 1-Mbit (64Kx18) and .5-Mbit (32Kx18) densities, provide independent read and write access to up to four separate processors/buses simultaneously in different frequency domains. The combination of the device speed with this architecture offers designers an unprecedented 14 Gbps (200MHz x 18 bps x 4 ports) of data throughput per FourPort product. Unlike competitive products, IDT's FourPort devices offer enhanced counter control at all density levels and speeds, enabling customers to migrate in density while retaining counter control functionality. In addition to a 272-pin BGA, the products are available in the smallest 256-pin BGA package, offering designers board space savings of up to 60 percent.
IDT Offers Innovative Features for Performance Enhancements
IDT's FourPort devices deliver high-performance memory built-in self tests (MBISTs) that operate at up to 200 MHz. The MBIST operations run more than three-times faster than alternative solutions, requiring only half as many cycles. The devices also offer improved thermal performance and a lower overall system power budget. For example, in similar operating conditions at 133 MHz, the IDT device rating for typical power consumption is 300mA (460mA max), compared to 350mA (700mA max) for competing solutions. Additionally, IDT's FourPorts provide enhanced functionality of counter controls and mask registers, resulting in optimal flexibility for counter-mask operations.
"The introduction of IDT's synchronous FourPorts underscores our goal of maintaining our leadership position in the industry by bringing to market the most advanced multi-port technology," said Bill Beane, strategic marketing manager for IDT's multi-port products. "IDT's synchronous FourPorts are a testament to our superior design capabilities and our desire to develop devices that support our customers' complex requirements."
Pricing and Availability
IDT's Synchronous FourPorts are currently sampling with production quantities available in Q4CY02. Volume pricing of the 1-Mbit devices starts at $137.45 in 10,000 unit quantities. Volume pricing of the .5-Mbit devices starts at $105.73 in 10,000-unit quantities.
