No one can function if they demand proof. I let deliverymen, movers, and the cable service man into my house. I was in no position to check up on any of them; on the other hand, the risk was not very great, considering that they had appropriate trucks and uniforms and such, and came around the time expected. Still, they could have been phonies. When I am in New York, I take cabs. It is true, I know my way around, having driven Manhattan a number of times, but the interesting thing is that none of the cabbies know that, and so far none has tried to rip me off by taking an excessively long route. Anyway, whether pro or rube, I am in their hands. And so it goes for a number of things, where people could try to rip me off or do me harm.........
