| An attack on the soil of the United States, on its mainland, and even on the symbol of its military might, is a matter which legitimately engrosses the attention of the American people, all the more so when there are still men dying in Afghanistan, and when there is a debate about invading Iraq. Surely your town remains a part of America, and therefore has a sense of solidarity with the victims and heroes of the attacks, and an abiding concern with how our country will fare having shown such vulnerability to attack. Why should it matter how far they are from New York to have a memorial service? As it stands, it is normal for the networks and magazines and papers to try to deal with an anniversary like this, comparatively close to the event, and if there is a sense of saturation, well, it allows one to pick and choose how one will observe the day.......... |
