Sunset Post Uses NUKO DVDComposer to Produce First PolyGram DVD Titles Dead Men Walking and Fargo DVD Masters Feature Next Generation DVD Quality
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 1997--NUKO Information Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NUKO) has announced the release of two DVD titles mastered on its DVDComposer.
Sunset Post, a major film and video production house, is under contract by PolyGram to produce a series of its major motion pictures for DVD. ``Fargo'' and ``Dead Men Walking'' are the first of a series to be released over the next few months.
The DVDComposer utilizes the latest C-Cube compression engine and multipass, variable bit-rate (VBR) software. C-Cube's VBR encoding solution was developed to address the strict quality demands of the Hollywood studios for the authoring of DVD titles.
``While there are a number of DVD encoding systems available, the quality issue has always been a serious concern,'' said Ron Burdett, President of Sunset Post. ``PolyGram quality standards required us to take the next step in DVD mastering and invest in the technology that would deliver necessary performance. These titles just released are examples of the potential that DVD holds and set the quality standard for the industry to follow.''
The DVDComposer provides the necessary components to produce entertainment and educational titles that capitalize on the quality, flexibility, and interactive capability of the DVD technology. The basic DVDComposer consists of three primary systems; a NUKO Highlander C-Cube based MPEG-2 video compression workstation, a Dolby Digital AC-3 perceptual audio encoder, and authoring and emulation software such as Daikin Scenarist II.
``With the rapidly expanding DVD market, a fully functional, high quality pre-mastering system is no longer optional,'' said Richard Mizer, Assistant Vice President, of NUKO's entertainment group. ``The quality of the titles just released by PolyGram and produced at Sunset Post are testament to the DVDComposer's ability to provide this next generation performance.''
In addition to its better than laser disk video and CD quality audio, DVD technology will permit consumers to interact with the medium to create a unique ``Hollywood Experience,'' unachievable in any other medium. With digital video disk technology, viewers will be able to interact with material stored on the disk to create a custom movie watching experience. This may include interviews with directors or actors, as well as background information and historical data.
