by the way, a 1.5 ghz Mac will only run at about 90% the speed of a 2.8 ghz Pentium4, when doing apps like photoshop that need speed...

Possibly, except 1GHz is the fastest Mac chip available now.

but a Dual 1.25 Ghz machine far surpases a single 2.8 Ghz pentium4.......

but would be smoked by a fast dualie Athlon that is if a 1.25 Ghz Mac existed.

Dual machines are far superior, i do 3D Cad, and Dual machines are the only way to go, until a Quad machine is out...... believe me, for power hungry apps, Dual Machines pack a whole heck of a lot more punch.... i have both....

No argument that CAD or any power hungry app that can use duals is going to be faster on a dual Mac, for you it makes good sense. Of course it's going to be faster on a dual Athlon also.

My buddie's machine came with 10.1.2, and since he has no internet connection as of yet... However we will be installing OSX soon, and I've heard it's faster. One would think though that even a dog slow version would be faster on a processor that is 3x faster measured by MHz.

As for the latentcy, I'm still using 10.1.5 and no way is it faster than or even even to 9.0.4, which is what I primarily use, probably because I have lots of RAM and set the cache as high as it will go. Don't believe you can change that setting in X.

One would thing the L3 cache etc on the 933 would stomp that advantage. No doubt OSX is getting better, still has a way to go I think, + you have the processor wars, and the PPC continues to loose, and now no 9.x on new machines. One step forward one step back.
