It would be easier to know where you are at, if I knew if you agreed with Bush that we should dump Arafat.

Unfortunately, he's not ours to dump. I think the Palestinians should dump him, but our capacity to force them to dump him is limited.

I think we should be a good deal less cozy with both the Palestinians and the Israelis, who I think bear a good deal more responsibility for the state of the bed on which they lie than some here would like to admit.

I believe we are going to have to make sure there are major regime changes in Iraq, Iran and Syria, and an end to Syria's colonization of Lebanon.

We can overthrow regimes. That we know. Our ability to construct replacement regimes that are both friendly to us and capable of governing remains open to a great deal of doubt.

The Iraq invasion will probably cause a "domino" effect on the other countries involved.

Supporting argument? I see no reason to believe this.

we will then be in a position to find and neutralize the Islamists.

If the governments we install prove to be unstable, unable to enforce their laws, vulnerable to external aggression and domestic ferment, we may find that our ability to find and neutralize Islamists is no better than it is now. We may also find that the Islamists have an easier time recruiting than ever before.
