And don't forget that the single most popular nonlinear editor application for video professionals (Apple's Final Cut Pro) doesn't work on any Windows machine, whether 300 MHz Pentium II or dual-2.8 GHz P4. It also doesn't run on OS 9, and it's STILL the biggest selling NLE on the market, so Doren's grave concerns about whether or not future machines will boot on OS 9 are apparently not shared with the mass of creative professionals.

Frankly I'm not terribly worried that the fastest Mac available is only marginally faster than the fastest Windows machine available, because the Windows machine can't run Cocoa apps, can't run FCP, doesn't ship with an Apache server or sendmail server, and ships with an OS that just makes me walk away feeling vaguely sticky.

Although granted, Linux on x86 is better supported than Linux for PPC. And Macs are woefully incompatible with most popular viruses.
