Hi Pearly_Button; Re: "Your assertion that the Iraq war is "off" took some beating today." My assertion that the war with Iraq is "off" dates to January of this year. What has happened since then? (1) US public opinion in favor of war has dropped. (2) Numerous luminaries of the Republican party have come out against unilateral action. (3) Every nation that we could realistically consider using as a jumping off spot has publicly and repeatedly refused to get involved. (4) Bush retracted his previous opinion that he had the right to start a war without congressional approval. (5) Congress has all but announced that they intend on arguing over the issue until past the elections. In addition, numerous members of both parties have come out against it. (6) The US military has continued to reduce the mobilized reserves to the point where now they are lower than in January / February. (7) The transportation industry, which was supposed to become rich due to all the transportation to the new Gulf War instead shows almost no change in year over year revenues. (I haven't updated this one recently, but will.) (8) Saddam Hussein, apparently agreeing with my assessment, shows no intention of letting inspectors back into Iraq without a promise of reduced sanctions. I still don't see any war with Iraq. That Debka, Ananova, or etc., sees war as looming isn't news. These guys are total off the wall idiots, and have repeatedly proved it. -- Carl
