Please don't try to blame hedge funds or shorters for the decline this year, or the decline that is forming now. The root cause is people pulling funds out of the market. Forced selling by funds caused the July mini-crash, and it is on the verge here of causing a bigger one. One of the biggest problems is that the idiotic fund managers have resolutely maintained very low cash positions when they should have been much better prepared for this situation.

The selling in MSFT starting around 3pm today looked much like forced unloading, price be damned.

If you really want to try to play the long side, pick stocks that are not heavily owned by mutual funds.
