Mr. Viazzo - I would not sell short CEO Schmidt quite so soon. Thank you for your insight on Mr.Gosling as he is truly a great innovator and software developer. Patrick Naughton was a great assets to SUN too. Both Naughton and CEO Schmidt brought SUN's Java to the market. Below is an excellent article on the development of JAVA and CEO Schmidt's involvement. Notice CEO's Schmidt's relationship to the principals (ie. Gosling, Naughton, and McNealy). Of the three, who would you want to run Novell?? My vote is still CEO Schmidt! It was his continued vision of the "potential market", the licensing deals and the bottom line that made this product the "standard" that it is today.

Alphonse...it's quite simple...CEO Schmidt applies the reality of 'business' principals to his long term vision.

Oh and McNealy and Naughton...McNealy continues to power Sun Microsystems to double digit earnings growth thanks to CEO Schmidt laying the 'business' foundation. McNealy has an excellent marketing group that makes Sun Microsystems the franchise it is today. CEO Schmidt needs to hire this expertise for Novell. I understand that high on his priority list is the recruitment of a top experienced executive with these qualifications.

Naughton got caught up in the race with Microsodt and was last heard (from the article) "...There are cheaper ways to say 'Fuck you' to Bill Gates," says Naughton, who left Sun last year after he became, as he puts it, "damaged goods" during FirstPerson's nadir. After Sun showed him the indignity of a 2 percent raise, he says, Naughton joined Starwave Corp. in Seattle, where he is using Java to create online services..."

So, I would tell CEO Schmidt to continue forward with fotitude and remember to develop that corporate culture that leads to innovation and deliver products that the customer want. Also, reward those employees with 'significant' boneses so we dodn't loose another Naughton. A big loss for Sun Microsystems.

EKS

P.S. Paul...Do you get the same read as I do with CEO Schmidt? After reading this article, he appears to me to be the right man for the job at hand. He does however, need to break the ties with Tolenen and BOD John Young.
