Max Pain - Two thoughts - Using the target price is not an accurate way to gauge or use max pain. So long as the stock closes beneath the next strike above the target price it has been a successful predictor. So to get the value of max pain you must think about ranges rather than targets.

Max pain must be expected to be broken any time the market makes a big move up or down.
