the rainjacket seminary guy said many things to me
he believed the problem in US seminaries was 10-15 yrs old
that was 1987
the gay issue in priesthood might not be as large in Europe and Ireland
I am not an authority on the subject
however, gay tolerance is very popular in Europe
check the French and Italian priesthoods
that is where I suspect gays might be prevalent, just a guess

the Boston seminary guy had a theory
gays could find significant public respect and community leadership roles in the priesthood
they could find a great many fellow potential men partners
they could be with other men behind closed doors without arousing much suspicion
they could find many young boys, if so inclined
they could speak from the pulpit, a sure ego lift
if more studious scholarly types, they could travel to Italy
if competent, they could have a long career
if sick, they would be taken care of

I dont know about the boy molesting issue, US vs Europe
but with $60M in Ireland lawsuits, and a lower figure that I dont remember from Italy lawsuits, I doubt this is an American phenomenon

the only silver lining is that the molestation rate among priests is about the same as the general public
but leaps & bounds lower than Protestant clergy
