An amusing blast from the past I just stumbled on:

I'm still waiting to see what we're going to do about Afghanistan. So far we seem to be very good at bombing the bejeezus out of things. After WWII we occupied Germany and Japan for years while we helped them rebuild their nations in our image. Not that this was a bad thing, you understand. However, according to Dubya, occupying Afghanistan is "right out." We don't do nation building, he said. At least, that's what I remember him saying.

Wonder if we're planning on occupying Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, et al? Or, if not, just exactly what is it we are going to do after we bomb the bejeezus out of them? Since we don't do nation building.

Inquiring minds want to know.

(Actually, Dubya didn't say occupying Afghanistan was "right out," that's from the Monty Python skit about the Holy Hand Grenade.) (I don't know why I can't really take this seriously. I guess it's the prospect of watching on my mental video screen a lifetime's good opinion about the good old US of A go down the tube. I'll believe it when I see it.)
