We no longer have the world sympathy.

So what? "Sympathy" plays little or no part in international relations. It may grease the wheels in how things are expressed but that's it. Name me one country which pursues its interests influenced by other countries' "sympathy."

If you mean individual Americans are criticized or attacked because of the US government's actions or policies, yes, that can be uncomfortable or even dangerous. But I still wouldn't want my government to operate based on how much "sympathy" we get.
