Way OT-

Of course you are correct. What is interesting to me is that complex issues are all too often taught as sound bites. It was only because I had an outstanding HS history teacher who made it a point to tell the other side, that I learned perspective on issues. In fact, one of my most enlightening moments was taking a course on intellectual history by Hans Kohn, a great historian. One of the radical CCNY students, as most of us were, asked his opinion about the John Birch society. We expected Kohn to excoriate the society but he presented their view in an intelligent way. We were shocked, and he pointed out that almost all points of view have kernals of truth in them, and that it was intellectually too simple to divide positions into good and evil or smart and dumb. That insight changed many of my most cherished views.
