Zeev,
Cuban missile crisis 1962. WMD were almost used by leaders much smarter and less irrational than saddam. No he doesnt want to be nuked but yes he is dumb with lousy judgement witness the gulf war and he is a bad man.
I asked this question of others. I would like your answer. If saddam attacks Kuwait again and warns the US to stay out or El quaida operatives in place lets say in 5 american cities will detonate a nuke, a bio weapon, and chemicals, would the US back off if the threat was deemed real? What if he did a demo like leaving a sealed cannister of anthrax in a park? Would we defend Kuwait then or seek to make a cynical deal to get those operatives out of ourcountry and preserve our oil/business interests.
If i were the president i would cut the deal at that point. Actually i would cut it now if i was unprepared to fight now. Stop him now or make a deal with him now to divide the oil at the expense of our so-called allies in the mideast. Bye bye saudis. Bye bye kuwaitis. Then there is no surrender for us. We both secure oil. We resume trade. Hell we will be friends. Realpolitik. mike
