There were some rumors that the late Q4 launch was postponed to early Q1 because of infrastructure. Now with this news, it is clear that it was obviously not the case. It is the processor that is the bottleneck, otherwise, AMD would have blamed somebody.
Here is my speculation (hope), which has maybe 1% probability of being correct: The desktop Clawhammer was supposed to be single memory channel, 236K L2, 1 HT, Socked 7xx part. AMD realized that this part is not performing adequatly compared to competition, so this part was scrapped (or postpone indefinitely, possibly to be used in the future under Duron name, as a replacement for K7.
What will be sold as desktop chip will be what originally supposed to be an Opteron DP, 2 channel memory, 2 HT channel, 512k L2, Socket 9xx part. Its original schedule was H1 2002, and it will remain that.
