If you do a google search inputting "al qaeda" "northern Iraq" you'll hit a lot of news outlets carrying the same story - the CIA can't link the Al Qaeda who have taken refuge in Northern Iraq to Saddam. The link is just too weak. However, it appears that we are considering attacking Ansar al-Islam.

To be honest, I don't understand the intricacies of our relationship with the Iraqi Kurds. My impression is that they want their own country, but we don't want to piss off the Turks, so we can't ally with them without reservations.
