Cary,
Hard to get a rally going with the tail(hope its the tail) end of the recession hitting us squarely in the face. My firm, a fortune 100, giant will be announcing another round of layoffs shortly, the third this year. This one cuts into muscle not just fat.
It may look like the end of the world by christmas with this type of news + a war in iraq. If there is a war we need to win it quickly and decisively. We need to keep fending off terror attacks around the world--so far so good. And we must get this economy rolling before the consumer quits on us. Its at these bleakest moments that the market looks forward 6-9 months. What will it see? Is there anything the government and fed can do to help? Perhaps suspend the tax cut for next year and target incrasing capex with those bucks. Encourage firms to retool by giving them a 6 month tax incentive window to start, however that is done. Mike
