BCE sells directories business for C$3 billion (BCE, SBC) By Tomi Kilgore
Canada's BCE Inc. (BCE) said it has sold its Bell Canada directories business for C$3 billion ($1.89 billion), and will use the proceeds to pay for part of the acquisition of SBC Communications' (SBC) minority interest in Bell Canada and for Bell Canada's ongoing financing needs. The buyers were Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and the private equity arm of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. The sale is expected to close by the end of November 2002. BCE's U.S.-listed shares are tacking on 8 cents to $17.68, bouncing off its intraday low of $17.42.
