No, they are probably the best part of AMD. But a broken design and a broken process means that the management was way too aggressive. Hammer systems could probably be already in stores if they had gone with a less aggressive design (without an integrated memory controller and on a 0.13 micron process). It wouldn't be much faster than Thoroughbred but at least x86-64 would be finally there. I think AMD should go one step at a time, i.e. first trying a new process (SOI) on an established design (Thoroughbred) and later moving the new design (Hammer) to that process. In that case if something goes wrong they still have a backup.
