Hi Christine, Most cars after '93 use R-134a instead of Freon in the A/C. It was developed by DuPont. You can't just put R-134a in your older car if your Freon leaked out, without modifying the system at a cost of $200 & up. It also develops higher pressures, increasing the chances of hose failure etc., and won't cool as good.

Frigc is a drop-in replacement for the pre-'93 cars and cools very well. The only modification is to modify the fittings, and adding a sticker. The cost would be about $100. Of course, either way, you would have to fix the problem that caused the coolant to leak out in the first place.

Fridgc is not widely known used because of the reluctance of A/C shops to get yet another reclaimer, and the need to inventory a third refrigerant. They would also have to learn it's characteristics. Some don't even know it exists. There is also a lot of black market Freon available. I would not buy IMG here until Pennzoil begins to get seriously behind it.

I will leave this stifling Texas heat when my current housing project is finished in about 2 years, and then concentrate on Earth friendly housing in New Mexico. I hate hot, humid weather. I moved to Texas to escape the cold in Wisconsin, and overshot South a bit too far.

I didn't know it got so hot in the mountains near you. I am also looking for mountain lake or stream property. The area around Santa Fe rarely gets above 85. My friend there built a $650,000 house there with no A/C, just like his neighbors. It isn't needed. That's why I want to build there. Insulating against cold is easy.
