Here's an interesting story about immigration attitudes in (enlightened?)Western Europe. Can you imagine the fate of any US elected official if they(even in near private) uttered words such these about non-native born Americans?:

"Integration means more than being able to speak German and recognize our legal system. It also includes … acceptance of the norms and customs that the native population feels obliged to obey. This means accepting the system of values of our Western, Christian culture, which has been influenced by Christianity, ancient philosophy, humanism, Roman law, and the Enlightenment."
