Not Hungary, it was the Suez Canal, Bulganin threatened to use Nukes against France and Britain if they do not withdraw, Eisenhauer told the Brits and French, "you cooked it you eat it", yielding to the Nuclear ultimatum. The Brits and French withdrew, but the French launched a major Nuclear program of their own (with help from Israel as strange as that sounds), vowing to never have to depend on Uncle Sam in a tight nuclear spot (g). Not that I think the Brits and French were right in their attempt to regain the canal by force, but that is not the point, the Soviet got the wrong impression that nuclear ultimatums work, thus the dangerous Khruschev gambit four five years later.
