Well, I think Saddam is a bad guy who is really bad. Not just a misguided well-meaning schmuck demonized by the US and the media. Is something like this your opinion?

As to whether the US is the good guy, well we're certainly not perfect. The US has certainly done bad things before and had also done it's share of bone-headed mistakes. Loose or non-existent controls on things like anthrax I consider a bone-headed mistake. I see you replied to CB's post on the FA thread on the same subject. I think her post was right on the money.

People who are overly critical of the US tend to have a view of the US government as all-knowing and all-powerful.

the President of the US and at least some members of the Cabinet had to know through the daily intelligence briefings that Iraq was using biological and chemical weapons. Yet through some miraculous oversight, they just simply forgot to inquire what might be exported to Iraq.

I'm quite sure the President and Cabinet don't have their finger on the pulse of everything going on. The country is just too big and the government too bureaucratic.

Re. bio-chem markers - you're talking about analsyis of the anthrax DNA to identify the exact strain, I presume. It wouldn't matter if the anthrax were supplied to Iraq in small lab doses and propagated and weaponized by them. The DNA would still be the same.
