Dear Kash:

I am using some information from AMD as to the changes from Tbred A to B (0.13u). They stated that they added decoupling capacitors to reduce noise and transients on the power distribution buses (this is the big add in die area). They also cleaned up some problems with crosstalk and SN ratios on signal lines. And some minor tweaking of transistors (channel width/length/thresholds). These probably came from some new design rules that work better from experience at 0.13u and thus probably will be used on the other lines (Barton, Clawhammer and Opteron).

They probably needed some minor tweaks anyway so why not add in the new design rules as they would enhance the ASAPs of the processed wafers. We are probablty talking only a few weeks slippage, but that forces the cross over of quarters.

Which would they rather have a 2.0GHz CH (3400+), 13 weeks from now (12/14/02) or a 2.5GHz CH (4400+), 16 weeks from now (1/4/03)? Which would each of you (not just Kash) choose? How about a 50W 2.0GHz CH or a 35W 2.0GHz CH suitable for high power mobile?

Pete
