Going back on the VIX to 1986, there has never been a 12 day stretch where the VIX has closed above 35 each day except the 40 day period after what happened on 10/19/87. In 1997 there were five straight days of VIX 35+. The stretch we had recently on the VIX is unprecedented, what it all means I wish I knew.
