God is the Father of the prodigal, running to us with open arms. Anonymous

From Alienation to Reconciliation
Colossians 1:19-23

Reconciliation implies that our relationship with God was blocked. What was wedged in between God and us to disrupt that relationship? It was sin. People often see “sin” in general as a list of certain bad deeds that they may do; however, a better understanding of sin is this: anything that comes between us and God, or anything that leads us away from Him. Sin can be quite misleading. Remember, sin keeps us away from God, and it effectively does so by making us think we are all wonderful people who do not need Him at all. It makes us consider ourselves super, capable, righteous people all on our own. After all, we certainly all like to believe that we “have it all together” don’t we? God, on the other hand, shows us exactly who and what we are. He slices through the deception and causes us to realize that our hearts are sinful and even our best deeds are sheer filth when compared to His holiness. (Isaiah 64:6) Because God is Truth, He will not mislead us; despite the fact that it may “feel” better to see ourselves as righteous and just, it is to our benefit to understand our need for the redemption that only God can provide. Though we are sinful, the Cross bridged the gap between us and God. He made a way for us “aliens” (Col 1:21) to enter into His holy presence. Thank Him for that bridge today. It is our connection to a loving heavenly Father who desires our fellowship.
