Treason is a violation of the law. Ergo, incarceration would be one of the alternatives...

An alternative is not the same thing as an objective.

We usually have something we hope to accomplish when we choose one alternative among many. What does incarceration accomplish other than a tick mark in the ledger of jurisprudence? Lots of things are against the law for which we don't necessarily impose prison sentences. Would there not be a punishment more suitable to the crime of having a big mouth and poor judgment? Which category of criminals would we let back on the streets to make room in the prisons for the bigmouths?
