The Shah of Iran was a really bad guy; we put him into power and supported him throughout his regime of torture and mutilation. Saddam was/is a really bad guy and we provided him conventional weapons .... And we provided Stalin a LOT of war material back in the '40's. Maybe we should only side with angels, but there aren't too many of them around. Should the absence of angels be a reason to let the Hitler's of the world prevail? Maybe we have to live in the world as it is. Play the cards God or fate deals us as best we can. When revolutionary Iran seemed in danger of overwhelming Iraq, we provided Iraq with limited assistance. What is the relevance of that today?
