I am always highly mindful of the fact that there is another human being on the other end of things, which is why I try to resist getting drawn into flame wars (it is not always possible, unfortunately), and why I have argued, usually shoulder to shoulder with Karen, at least, for there being parameters to our discussion, not in respect of substance, but in respect of style. I am also bothered by the insistence on questioning the humanity of the posters, or our ability to know one another, even if it intended as a philosophical point, since it can justify the most beastly behavior.

I would, at this point, prefer a more nuanced view of many issues, and the ability to acknowledge that not everything is apparent, that some things offer inherent complexities that may or may not be resolved in a forum like this. I have posted on both moderated and unmoderated threads, following the action, as it were. If there were a moderated thread that could allow for occasional misbehavior, but strongly discouraged chronic incivility, and which could keep a good conversation going, I might very well hang there most of the time.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts, and let me know if another thread is ventured.......
