Hi, Del!! I think I had a misunderstanding about Frigc. I definitely did not realize that it was only for pre-1993 cars. And I guess you are also saying that unless coolant is already leaking, no modification is necessary because it doesn't pollute the atmosphere as long as the system remains closed? I realize these questions are naive at best, but what are the regulations involving air conditioning coolants? Is the owner of an older car required to do nothing about his refrigerant until it starts leaking?

The cost of conversion would seem to almost cry out for some kind of worldwide grant to the owners of these old cars, who are usually not very affluent, so that they could get them converted. It seems to me that it would also dry up the often-mentioned huge supply of black-market freon by reducing the demand for it. This is one of those areas where, to me at least, pure free market solutions don't always work well. Ideas, anyone?

California is really a pretty hot place, Del. We have the Mojave Desert, where temperatures shoot up well over 120, and of course the name Death Valley is quite descriptive of the effects of that heat. It is cold in the Sierras and our other mountain ranges when it snows, but hot in the summer. San Francisco is the only place I have lived where it isn't often in the high '90's or low hundreds on summer days. Only right along the coast are the temperatures mild at all. Unfortunately, when I was in labor it was 96 degrees in San Francisco, and that was at the end of October!! We have something called Indian Summer here, in the fall, and of course there is no air conditioning anywhere to be found.

I thought Santa Fe was really toasty, but the way you describe it, it sounds very comfortable. Are the houses you are going to build the ones with those very thick adobe walls? I know you described them to me once, but I have forgotten the details. Could you do it again?

I am still looking for Electric Motorbike information. I had another miserable week at work, and am really distracted from doing little research projects because of exhaustion, but it's something I think you would be interested in, so I'm going to keep trying!!!
