so you think suncom should morph into a software company ehh? its not that easy to wave a magic wand and erase years of poor r & d decisions.

I only came to this thread because I think Oracle is turning. Most oracle big installations are on Sun. I had no idea 50% of sunw's business was telecom, they are definitely in worse trouble than I thought.

BTW Sun's inability to dominate in the java application server area even after they acquired 2 app server companies (netdynamics and kiva) is a bad omen. IBM walked away with that business. Sun should have had it. If they can't make money on a software space that they practically create... what can they make money on?

One small piece of good news is a shift to linux is still a shift, most migrations cause at least some money to be made. Maybe Sunw can build a hot middle tier product with their app server pre-loaded on a linux box (Dell, of course, has already done this)... its a growth area at least.
