I guess the discussion is moot, now that he has accepted unconditional inspections!

I really dont think that any of these discussions are going to be moot....they are just going to be extended.

Bush is going to need to use the momentum created by his speech last week to extract a resolution out of both the UN and Congress that authorizes force if inspections fail. If he doesnt the same thing will happen next year that happened in '98.....Hussein will throw the inspectors out after a couple of months. The current consensus will have faded and the political/diplomatic work would have to be done again.

Hopefully, the authorizations wont be needed....but after looking over the various quotes from the UN/Congress in '98, it would be naive to think that Hussein will really allow unconditional inspections. He promised this before and got away without complying.

OTOH....perhaps he will understand that he faces a different president this time.
