One year ago we, as a nation, had everything going for us to go for Saddam's throat -- now we don't. Why? Because of the conduct of a unilateral "invade Iraq" regime change policy. There are no parallels -- none -- to the Clinton policy of providing paltry sums of money to Iraqi opposition forces. Your line of reasoning -- and it is a stretch to call it that -- is to ignore the power we had to deal with Iraq one year ago compared with our position today. We weakened our own hand by not building a coalition a year ago and instead chose to alienate potential supporters with a policy of unilateral regime change by invasion of Iraq. Now we have to backtrack and play ball with the UN and piece together a coalition which ia already lined up against us because of our own policy actions.
