Its OK for US industry to "pay off" people using "lobbyists". But hey, "Baksheesh", its oh, so corrupt!

It is NOT OK in the US to pay off politicians using lobbyists. The ONLY legal favors that can be given to a US politician are small gifts of less than $50 in value, and a contribution to the politician's election fund. There are strict limits on how much money can be given (I think it's $1000) and strict limits on how the money can be spent.

In fact, Congress just passed even tougher limits this past summer (campaign finance reform). I haven't studied the details, just remember the yadda-yadda.

Senator Torricelli just got reprimanded ("severely admonished") for accepting favors, and former Congressman Trafficant just got sentenced to eight years in prison for taking payoffs and kickbacks.
