patron - "propositions enacted by the UN aren't worth the toilet paper they're written on"

I'd have to agree with you about some of the more recent resolutions, but Bush (a) acting on his own and (b) initiating a first strike would result in precisely what he says he doesn't want, i.e. it will render the UN concept irrelevant forevermore. But that won't be Iraq's fault, it will be US arrogance.

Even with its flaws, most of the other 192 countries on Earth at least play the game. Once a US invasion of Iraq goes down, however, any country with a gripe and a few lame excuses will be feeling free to act upon their impulses too.

How about Nepal? Tibet? Palestine? Korea? Half of the African continent? A dozen other places? It's easy to dismiss the concept of the equality of nations as long as you have more and bigger weapons, and it's easy to advocate the dismantling of a corrupt political regime as long as it isn't your own.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to hand over a planet to my children where geopolitical interaction resembles Tombstone Territory in the 1800s.

I guess the best I can do is leave them a few tons of gold
