Becoming current on Ritter's position then and now is really mandatory for us to discuss this furthur.

Why not? Ritter is important because Ritter can tell us something that very few people can tell us. He was actually in Iraq, actually inspecting Iraq's WMD facilities.

It is a universal truth that people have good memories about something that just happened, but after several years, the memory is less clear.

Ritter has not been a weapons inspector for the last four years. So he is talking about something that happened four years ago. His memory was probably better then than it is now. Isn't that the way things usually go?

What changed his mind?
